ELEANOR III.Skip Shumway

At 54′7″ LOA, ELEANOR III has standing headroom under her raised foredeck and still looks sleek. She was built in 1930 in Erie, Pennsylvania

In the antique auto world, this would be known as a “barn find,” and any collector would be overjoyed to make such a discovery. ELEANOR III’s existence wasn’t a surprise to Skip Shumway, however, because he’d been storing her in one of his own sheds for 38 years. But last spring, when the owners decided to abandon the boat and turn her over to the boatyard with disposal in mind, Skip couldn’t bring himself to start the chainsaw. He’s agreed to hang onto her a bit longer, hoping a savior will appear. I surely share that hope, and like Skip and the broker John Maxwell, who alerted me to this boat, I’d term this an unusually fine discovery.
