Dave Gentry’s Chuckanut 15 is a tandem skin-on-frame kayak that is similar to the kayaks that got recreational paddling off to a start in the decades around the middle of the last century. Do-it-yourself magazines, usually with the word “Popular” in their titles, had many articles on building kayaks with plywood frames supporting stringers and a canvas covering. In the 1950s, kayak clubs were popping up on the coasts, and tandem kayaks with long, open cockpits were then among the most numerous paddling craft.
