While many young sailors get their start in small one-design racing classes, some kids are born cruisers, with more of Tom Sawyer than Dennis Connor in their blood. These youngsters may not have the bankroll or the instincts to succeed on the race course, but might be dreaming a bit of longer-range adventure, perhaps spending the night with a buddy in that little cove a mile or two away. Often these dreamers would have the gumption to forsake the TV and build for themselves the vessel of their dreams, if they had a bit of encouragement.
