Dave Ahrens of Upper Lake in Northern California took an interest in Adirondack guideboats and started to build one 13 years ago using Building an Adirondack Guideboat, by John Michen and Michael Olivette, as his construction manual. At first, he worked in his two-car garage, but the purchase of a 30-acre property 2 miles from town and building a house and a spacious workshop stalled the project.
